SAICE Calendar

BACKGROUND

The SAICE calendar is an annual outreach that is distributed by the SAICE National Office.

The South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE), a non profit organisation, represents it's members and strives towards improving, enhancing and growing the pool of civil engineering professionals, as well as the awareness of civil engineering in South Africa.

In furthering the interest of civil engineering in South Africa, SAICE also embarks on educational campaigns and outreach projects. One of the tools used for this campaign is the SAICE annual calendar.

The formulation of the calendar starts in the May to September months with a photographic competition. The competition is open to all members of the public, as well as SAICE members and photographs of civil engineering projects, at various stages, are submitted for the competition. The photographs are later adjudicated according to set criteria.

Often, the best photographs are selected and published on the SAICE calendar with the name of the project, developers, engineering company and sponsor/s.

Depending on sponsorship and sponsor requirements, up to 16 000 calendars are printed. 8 000 of these are sent to our members and the additional copies are used as outreach material which are sent to decision makers, partners in the government, the community at large, schools and educational institutions. Further copies could be printed for the sponsor/s to send out to their clients and members.

Funds allowing, we would like to print one of the following options:

• 7 page, A2 size calendar with a large colour photograph and two calendar months per page. This is a high quality choice that cost considerable more that the second option listed below.

  Approximate cost:

  Quantity: 8000 - R 152,524.02 (VAT incl.);
  Run on - quantity 1000 - R 16,500.00;
  Postage & packaging - approx. R 66,000.00 (for 8000)

• smaller 13 leaf, CD format, hard copy calendar with a colour photograph and one calendar month per page.

  Approximate cost:

  Quantity: 8000 - R 32,887.86 (VAT incl.);
  Run on - quantity 1000 - R 3,830.00;
  Postage & packaging - approx. R 15,000.00 (for 8000)
  

Because of a decision taken by relevant SAICE committees, any such outreach project has to be self funding amongst other things, because of our non-profit status. If we cannot source enough funds to print either of the above formats of calendar, we will come up with a solution to suit our situation and pocket. We will endevour to do the best we possibly can to provide our members with some form of calendar.
